Just 50 meters from the beach, stands the Forte di Marina di Bibbona, a military construction built by the Lorraine at the end of 1700. The structure has a square plan and a brick front, surmounted by a viewing terrace. Today, this terrace offers a perfect place to sunbathe, have lunch or just enjoy the beautiful sea view.
Inside the fort, there were rooms for the guards patrolling the coast. In addition to coastal surveillance, the fort’s tasks included health control, combating smuggling, and functioning as a reference point for goods arriving by sea.
The Forte di Marina di Bibbona is the characteristic symbol of the town and a place that is definitely worth a visit for those who want to discover the history and beauty of the area.
