Immersed in the Livorno countryside, a short distance from Camping Le Palme, there are many small villages of medieval origin. Many of these villages have preserved intact their original urban structure, with stone paved alleys, high walls, churches and historic buildings. Among the most evocative of the territory are Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri.
Located a few kilometers from each other, these villages are the ideal destination to spend a day immersed in nature. The history of both countries is closely linked to the Della Gherardesca family, who administered the area until the nineteenth century. It was this family that promoted the wine production activity in the hills surrounding Castagneto and Bolgheri, creating red wines of excellent quality. Today, these towns are essential destinations for lovers of good food and wine. This is where renowned wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Grattamacco and Masseto are produced.
The castle of Bolgheri, located at the entrance of the village and symbol of the town, is still owned by the Della Gherardesca family. In front of its tower ends the famous “Viale dei Cipressi”, celebrated by the poet Giosuè Carducci in his works, who spent his childhood here.
